How Temporary Phone Numbers Work for SMS Verification
A temporary phone number is designed for a short verification session. Instead of using your personal number, you choose a service and country, check the current availability, and receive SMS messages while the number remains active.
The basic flow
- Choose the service you need to verify and a supported country.
- Review the availability indicator, credit quote, and reservation deadline.
- Confirm the reservation when the details are right for you.
- Use the number on the destination service and keep the SMSCode verification screen open.
- Read the incoming message and enter the complete code in the destination service.
The number is shown after the reservation is successfully claimed. The available list is a guide; the reservation check is the final availability test.
Why availability can change
Phone-number inventory depends on the selected service, country, provider stock, and destination-service acceptance. A country can appear available and change before a reservation completes. SMS delivery can also vary by provider and destination service.
What temporary numbers are not for
Temporary numbers are not a replacement for a long-term personal number. Do not use them for account recovery, financial activity, permanent accounts, or any service that prohibits virtual-number verification. Use SMSCode only for lawful, legitimate verification purposes.
